Science in Reception

Our budding young scientists in Reception enjoyed a spectacular day of experiments, exploration and investigation.  It was a physical start to the day as we wiggled and jiggled to the tune of ‘Footloose’ to discover more about how activity affects our bodies. Mr Andrews then took us on a magical journey where we met the friendly dancing Oobleck Monsters (did you know that their favourite music is Michael Jackson!) We had fun learning about sound and vibrations using drums and rice; Alice said “When we banged the drum it looked like the rice was dancing.” As the afternoon approached we embarked on a Pilates Pirate Adventure; using our balance and coordination to sail the seven seas on a boat in order to search for buried treasure (sssh...it’s a secret, so we can’t tell you where it is hidden!) We ended a busy day by mixing colours and investigating changes...it would have been far to ordinary to use paint and paintbrushes so we used sweets instead (fruit flavoured Skittles to be exact.) A fantastic day that has definitely opened up a whole new world of discovery and opportunities.
