| Lower School: Year 1 Our emphasis in years 1 and 2 is on creating the best foundation for future academic success; we focus on the core subjects of literacy and numeracy daily so that your child becomes confident in these core subjects. Year 1 is split into 2 classes by age, with an average class size of 15, to ensure that the children get the right level of academic instruction. At this level the children work towards Key Stage 1 SATs which take place during the summer term of year 2. We develop ability groups during the first term of year 2 and teach English and Maths according to the children’s ability, with the additional support of 4 or 5 members of staff to help raise performance levels across the board. We also start French lessons in year 1. |
