| Music is flourishing at St Faith Music is a wonderful skill for any child; research shows how learning music can help your child in so many ways: • Improved reasoning capacity and problem solving skills • Improved maths and language performance • Better memory • Greater social and team skills At St Faith’s at Ash we believe music is very important and every year group receives specialist music tuition designed for their age and ability. From Nursery to Year 6, all students are encouraged to participate fully in the classes, which help encourage their musical ability and build self confidence. All students also sing each week in our Friday assembly. As well as specialised class tuition we have a fantastic choir who sing at our Summer Concert and at our traditional Christmas Carol Service in St Nicholas Church, Ash, and who have performed at both the Thanet and Canterbury festivals. We also have an Orchestra which is open to all students who learn an instrument. Our informal Summer Concert is a lively and entertaining hour, featuring masses of different music, such as Jazz, Calypso, Classical, Lloyd Webber and anything else students fancy performing! We listen to the choir and also instrumentalists performing and adding to the very enjoyable evening. We believe that practising for an event and performing is vital to students’ development on their instrument; students who have no opportunity to perform early in their musical career are often shy and nervous about performing later. At St Faith’s at Ash we strive to give students as many opportunities to perform as possible, which is a fantastic boost to their confidence levels; from our summer concert to musical assemblies to students performing at local homes for the elderly, we encourage students who wish to perform and offer as many opportunities as possible. Throughout our school week we welcome many visiting music teachers with students currently learning a variety of instruments including, piano, keyboard, flute, recorder, violin, classical guitar, electric guitar, voice, trumpet/cornet, sax, clarinet, drums, musical theory and more. Those students who wish to, take exams with Associated Board and Trinity Guildhall and students enjoy receiving their certificates in our special Friday assembly.
