| Upper School From year 3 onwards we emphasise the importance of a broad and stimulating curriculum which engages every pupil. In years 3 to 5 Maths and English are taught in ability groups with teaching for some subjects shared so that the children become used to being taught by more than one teacher. The children take annual cognitive ability tests in English, Maths and reasoning which provides a good indicator for potential Kent Test results, as well as highlighting potential areas of weakness for us to work on. In the Upper School we start preparing your child for the Kent Test with a wide curriculum focusing on key literary, numeracy and reasoning skills. We believe it is essential to teach children how to approach and discuss problems and to challenge and debate solutions. We aim for every child to take the Kent Test, although we do understand that Grammar schools are not suitable for every student. In year 6 our pupils take the Kent Test and Key Stage 2 SATs. We have excellent results for the Kent Test with an average pass rate of 90% and at Key Stage 2 SATs many of year 6 pupils achieve level 5. |
